A circular level walk through countryside, alongside the miniature Bure Valley Railway where if you are lucky a steam train will pass, plus field tracks and riverside paths. The walk starts from the river moorings if you are travelling by boat, but there is also parking in the road alongside for those arriving by car.

By river head upstream through Wroxham and Belaugh to public moorings on Coltilshall Common.
If you are coming by car there is a large car park for the two pubs - Kings Head and Rising Sun if you are wanting refreshment before or after your walk.
By road - A1062 from Wroxham it leads directly to the moorings and Kings Head pub on the left.
By road from Norwich - B1150 turn left over river bridge onto the A1062 direction Wroxham. The Kings Head and Rising Sun pubs are on the right as you leave Coltilshall.

Start to Railway Bridge

Start point: 52.7281 lat, 1.3708 long
End point: 52.734 lat, 1.3756 long

The path starts on the opposite side of the road to the Kings Head pub. Follow this path until it emerges out onto a road. Keep straight on along the road until you reach the railway bridge, go up the steps on the left to the path and turn right.

Railway Bridge to Steps
Railway Bridge to Steps

Start point: 52.734 lat, 1.3756 long
End point: 52.7268 lat, 1.4006 long

Keep on the path alongside of the railway, you maybe lucky and have a steam train pass (summer only). At the road cross over through the gate and continue until you reach the steps on the Right.

Steps to Hedge Gap

Start point: 52.7268 lat, 1.4006 long
End point: 52.7226 lat, 1.4016 long

Go down the steps and go straight on for a short distance, then bear right to follow hedge-side path. When you reach the boundary hedge, Turn Right and after a short distance you will see a small sign pointing to your left, go left through the gap in the hedge here. Note: take care as you can easily miss this turn.

Hedge Gap to Main Road

Start point: 52.7224 lat, 1.4009 long
End point: 52.7193 lat, 1.3936 long

Travel straight on until you reach the hedge boundary to the main road. You can either get onto the road and turn right (this road is busy and narrow here so be careful if you choose this option) or turn right and carry on beside the hedge (with the road running to your left) until you see the road junction sign posted Belaugh, across the road.

Main Road to Footpath

Start point: 52.7193 lat, 1.3936 long
End point: 52.7162 lat, 1.3891 long

Cross over the road to turn left down the road signed to Belaugh. Follow road to Belaugh, do not take the first right, but carry on until you see a small green with footpath sign pointing to your right.

Footpath to Stile
Footpath to Stile

Start point: 52.7162 lat, 1.3891 long
End point: 52.716 lat, 1.3871 long

Turn right onto this footpath and proceed down this path until you reach the village road, then turn right. Proceed along the road passing the village staith and boat yard, and at the bend in the road pass over the stile to the left.

Stile to End
Stile to End

Start point: 52.7172 lat, 1.3867 long
End point: 52.7179 lat, 1.3865 long

Walk straight ahead, this section is like walking through a private garden but keep straight on, until you reach another gate stile. Pass through and keep straight on passing buildings on the right to reach another gate. Pass through and carry on across the field to another gate which leads across more fields. Pass over a stile at the start of the village and keep straight on until you reach the common. At the far end of the common you will find the river moorings and the pub car park where the walk began.

A good varied walk, but closer to 4 miles than 5.

It's 4.44mls or 7.15km

ADMIN RESPONSE: Thanks for your comment. Tracking the length of walks carries a degree of error, whatever method is used (GPS tracking, App tracking, Activity Wristband tracking, measuring on an OS map). This relates to the calibration of the device, the accuracy of the software and the exact route walked (e.g. which side of the paths when going round a corner and how straight your line of walking is). To account for this, we round the length of our walking guides to the nearest mile, based on the GPS data that was tracked at the time of writing. So, if this was measured at 4.7 miles by the author when he walked (well within the acceptable error limits compared to your measurement) this would show as a 5 mile walk. So our published walk lengths will always be within plus or minus half a mile accuracy. Hope that helps.
