A 3.5 mile circular pub walk from The True Lovers Knot in Tarrant Keyneston. A lovely undulating walk through the Tarrant valley over open fields and grassy paths, skirting Ashley Wood and its famous golf club. Delightful views and pretty good under foot, a great country walk.

The walk has several slopes plus a number of gates and stiles. The route follows a mixture of field paths and grass tracks some of which can be muddy after wet weather. Approximate time 70 to 90 minutes.

The walk starts and finishes at The True Lovers Knot pub on Wimborne Road (B3082) in Tarrant Keyneston, near Blandford in Dorset. Approximate post code DT11 9JG.

End point: 50.8464 lat, -2.1123 long

The path is a gentle, steady climb and can be a little damp in places with patches of nettles. After 500 yards, the path bends left and there are good open views to right. The grassy track, turns right after 80 metres. Continue ahead with Ashley Wood to the left and open fields to the right.

After 200 yards, you meet a gravel track. Bear right and continue for 300 yards, past the mobile phone mast and bear left again on to a grassy track. After a short distance, bear left on to mulched path and continue ahead with trees to the left and golf course to the right, ignoring crossing paths until you see the main road ahead.

Wimborne Road to Stile

End point: 50.8366 lat, -2.1074 long

Walk to right of the metal gate, cross the road and through metal gate opposite, continuing downhill with hedge tight to your left. After 500 yards, the hedge bends round to the left, cross the stile bear left and follow left edge of field past 2 yew trees.

Head straight on the grass track between two fields with trees to the right. Nice views to left over downland. After 500 yards, with the houses of Tarrant Keyneston approaching, look out for a stile on the left.

Stile to End

Start point: 50.8366 lat, -2.1074 long
End point: 50.8418 lat, -2.0983 long

At this point you can choose to make a small detour - go ahead down to the road and visit All Saints church (see photo) on the right, then retrace your steps to this stile.

Cross stile then another after 80 yards and walk straight over the road, crossing a third stile. As the path opens up, keep to right edge of field, pass rusty building to the right and cross stile. Keep to right edge of field and walk to right of barbed wire fence, follow path round, cross stile and pass through metal bar gate up to the main road.

Turn right and head down the pavement for a few hundred yards and cross road to the True Lovers Knot for some much deserved hospitality!
