A 2 mile walk around Fleet Pond, a made up path has been laid round the pond that is quite pushchair friendly, but it can be muddy in places and in May 2013 it is still having some of the spoil moved round and being spread that has been dredged from the pond. This walk is great on a hot day as the tree shade is most of the way round with plenty of viewing points and pond dipping for the kids. This is quite a busy walk.

I have started this walk from Fleet Station (GU51 3QY) but it can be started from many other places. There is one car park off the Cove Road but this is down a very bumpy road that is quite remote. There is plenty of on-street parking from the other side, just look at the map and see the first 3 waypoints.

Walk Sections

Start to Wellington Ave
Start to Wellington Ave

Start point: 51.2898 lat, -0.832 long
End point: 51.2889 lat, -0.8291 long

Starting from the station car park take the path beside the office buildings going away from the main road. As you enter the pond area take the path to the right, this is quite hard to miss. Wellington Ave is one of the places that you could park a car for free.

End point: 51.288 lat, -0.8283 long

Just a short stroll between these roads, the pond on the left will have all sorts of wildlife around.

Chestnut Grove to Kenilworth Road

End point: 51.286 lat, -0.8228 long

Keep a look out for all the birds and wildfowl that use this pond, the path does leave the pond side at this point but it is still a nice place to be.

Kenilworth Road to The Beach

End point: 51.2878 lat, -0.8198 long

These next two sections are the wooded area, lovely to walk along and this is Fleet beach, lots of locals don't know that they do not have to go to the seaside for some sand and water.......When I did the walk this time they had dredged the pond and were storing some spoil fenced off here, it will be moved soon I hope.

The Beach to Higher Track

Start point: 51.2878 lat, -0.8198 long
End point: 51.2886 lat, -0.8177 long

Walking back round the path you will come to an area that is higher than the main path this will take you into another part of the army land if you wish but for this walk keep on round the pond with it to your left.

Higher Track to Picnic Area
Higher Track to Picnic Area

Start point: 51.2886 lat, -0.8177 long
End point: 51.2896 lat, -0.8192 long

If you keep an eye out a picnic area is up on the higher path (only a few feet really from the main pond side path), through this is the car park off the Cove Road if you prefer to park here.

Picnic Area to End

A straight walk to the railway line is the way to go, turning left back to the station car park.
