A circular scenic trail to a picturesque little loch that teems with wildlife – including a rather unusual fish! The trail climbs gently through mixed woodland to loop around Lochan Spling. Watch out for jays and crossbills in the trees, damselflies near the loch and wildlife sculptures along the way, including a wonderful wiry osprey. Not all the fish in the loch are as big as the pike that’s permanently leaping in the shallows!

Lochan Spling can be started from Loch Ard car park in Loch Ard Forest which is part of the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. Aberfoyle is the nearest town or village. Follow the B829 west from Aberfoyle for a mile and a half. Turn left over the River Forth and onto the forest road. Follow the signs to a new car park just under a mile into the forest. Approximate post code FK8 3TG.
