I am sponsoring this section of the Sussex Hospices Trail in loving memory of my mother Yvonne Harvey who passed away in January of 2016 at 99 years of age.
Mum regularly attended healing services at St Christopher’s Hospice given by the hospice’s Chaplaincy team and as Dame Cecily Saunders, the founder of the hospice movement, also attended these services Mum would often speak to her. My oldest brother Charles, led the music for these services and also played guitar instrumentals. It was here that the guitar instrumental ‘Love Awaits’ he later played at Mum's funeral was composed and first heard.
It was a St Christopher’s Hospice nurse who attended and assessed Mum for her own ‘end of life care’ in the days prior to her death. This involvement was very reassuring for our family. The expertise given was a crucial and integral part of her care and she passed away without any struggle and completely at peace. Their care ensured that she was pain free, relaxed and comfortable.
We are sponsoring this particular section of the trail because our family owns Local Fuels and the Oil Import Terminal at Shoreham Port, which is close to the middle section of this walk.
