Be sun smart when out and about

Be sun smart when out and about

You’ve planned your route, have the right shoes on, comfortable clothes and a drink carrier is in your hand. But are you protected from the sun? Not many of us think about it as part of our pre-walk checklist. But it's just as important to keep your skin protected whether going out for a country ramble or doing a town trail as it is when you are spending time on a sunny beach.

May is National Walking Month

May is one of the busiest walking months. With spring flowers bursting forth plus longer, warmer days everyone shrugs away the winter hibernation mode and has the urge to stride back out into the great outdoors. Here are some of the month’s key events...

What is your favourite Spring Flower?

One of the many things that we love about the arrival of spring is the fact that woodland floors burst into colour. Throughout winter woodlands can feel quite stark, with bare branches of trees and the woodland floor seemingly bereft of plant life. Unpowered exoskeleton improves walking efficiency

Unpowered exoskeleton improves walking efficiency

Engineers have created the first unpowered exoskeleton boots that allow humans to walk whilst expending less energy. The boots make human walking seven percent more efficient, giving hope for those who have difficulty getting around.

Have you seen the Easter Bunny?

Have you seen the Easter Bunny?

Can you tell a Mad March Hare from an Easter Bunny?  Now spring has arrived, The Mammal Society is appealing for the public to record and report all sightings of a wild rabbit or hare. Hares may be declining in parts of the UK, while rabbits have been hit by myxomatosis and other viral diseases, says the Mammal Society. People are being asked to send in photographs of rabbits and hares to help map the UK population, whether it be in a London park, a Norfolk field, or on a Scottish mountain.

The Festival of Scilly Walks

The Festival of Scilly Walks

We were lucky enough to spend a long weekend with friends on the Isles of Scilly earlier this month, just before the main tourist season started. The islands were quiet but even in the cold winds the clear air, star-filled skies, blue seas and tranquil surroundings provided a lovely feeling of escape.
