Bridge Cottage is a charming Bed and Breakfast situated in the “golden corner” of Oundle, Uppingham, Oakham and Stamford – but only 8 miles from Peterborough city centre and train station.
We have never thought of our B & B as anything other than offering a haven of peace, with a great British breakfast thrown in. When designing our B & B, we thought of somewhere we’d like to stay in a place we would enjoy – in the countryside surrounded by beautiful views. Good powerful showers, nicely decorated calm décor, comfortable beds with fresh white linen, and a great breakfast the next morning. So when you finally depart – you are refreshed, relaxed and ready to face the world again!
Bridge Cottage is privately owned by Rod and Judy who have spent two years altering the property to a high standard of décor and comfort comprising of two newly decorated double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and a two separate twin room with the family bathroom nearby.
We are situated approximately 4 miles from the historic town of Oundle, 8 miles down the A1 from Stamford, and just 10 miles from Peterborough. There are numerous walks from the house, public footpaths leading to either Fotheringhay, Southwick, Bulwick, Apethorpe, or Nassington – through woods and across fields or within close range of Fotheringhay Church and Castle, Southwick Hall, Blatherwyke Lake and Barnwell Country Park, Lyveden New Bield, Rockingham castle.
The Bridge Cottage Breakfast
You can enjoy your breakfast in the relaxing “family kitchen / dining room” which overlooks the lovely conservatory. Imagine watching the river dancing along from your breakfast table?
Choose a hearty Full English or a Vegetarian Breakfast from our extensive menu. Nothing is too much trouble and we willingly cater for all requirements and diets. All our food is free range, and locally sourced from organic producers around the local area. We buy our meat from Simon Moulds in Nassington, our eggs from Kings Cliffe and the fruit and vegetables from the local farmers markets.
There are so many walks to walk, routes to cycle and historic houses to visit – you don’t need to travel anywhere when visiting us! Bridge Cottage is located 5 miles from the 110 mile Nene Way long distance footpath, which can be joined 2 miles along the edge of fields at Fotheringhay. The route broadly follows the path of the River Nene and provides excellent territory for walkers and ramblers to see the Northamptonshire countryside.
From our property there are numerous other walks in and around the Nene Valley, from Wansford to Fotheringhay, onto Cotterstock and Warmington, over to Elton and then up to Nassington, and back to Woodnewton via Apethorpe, from 2 miles to 20 miles in length depending upon requirements. These routes are also used regularly for people who wish to run/jog – often before breakfast! As we are only a few miles from South Lincolnshire, Stamford offers a lovely stroll round Burghley Park, a 10 mile drive takes you to Rutland Water for an 18 mile bike ride or numerous walking, rowing and canoeing round Oundle.
