Things to Do

Situated at the gateway to the Scottish Highlands there is always plenty to do in and around Crieff.

At the heart of the Strathearn valley where the lowlands meet the highlands walking opportunities are varied and abundant. These range from low level walks through woodland and beside rivers to more serious walking taking in some Munros. Advice and information on suitable walks is available from Nigel on request. Alternatively there are plenty of walks on the Walk Highlands website. As well as a hearty breakfast to get you started, we can provide a packed lunch and flask filling service. In the unlikely (!) event of inclement weather we can provide drying facilities.

Rings of Breadalbane
The Rings of Breadalbane are routes for walking, road cycling and trail biking, along with guides to golf and angling, that allow you to explore our beautiful area of Scotland.

Follow these trails, and you'll soon be taking in our glorious lochs, picturesque small towns and villages and fertile valleys - a real discovery of "Bràghaid Alban", the High Ground of Scotland, which gives Breadalbane its name.

Crieff is the perfect base for golfers, having a beautiful course of its own with first class facilities. It is only a short drive to Gleneagles, where all three courses are World class. The PGA centenary course was the venue for the 2014 Ryder Cup.

There are also courses at Auchterarder, Comrie, Muthill and St Fillans which are in superb condition and would be a test for any golfer and a bit easier on the wallet.

St Andrews and the many Fife links are an hour at most from Crieff for those who want to mix the beauty of the Perthshire courses with some traditional links golf.

There are many cycle routes in and around Crieff from road cycling to challenging mountain bike tracks. Here at Galvelbeg House we are part of the Cyclists Welcome scheme and provide washing facilities and secure storage for your bikes. For more information on mountain bike routes and bike hire visit Comrie Croft Bikes. Have a look here if you want specific routes for Cycling in Perthshire.

Perthshire is well known for the great fishing available. When you are in the area then contact Crieff Angling Club to fish on the River Earn or at Drummond Loch. Also in the Ochil Hills is a 250 acre reservoir on the Gleneagles Estate, with fly fishing through Frandy Fishery or the Glensherup fishery which is a 29 acre loch set in spectacular scenery in the Perthshire hills. At Glensherup, it is easy to imagine being in the Highlands of Scotland at this scenic fishery.

Horse Riding
Just a short distance from Galvelbeg House is the Crieff Hydro Riding Centre. Here, horse riding enthusiasts of all ages and ability are welcomed - whether you've never even met a horse, let alone sat on one or are a returning rider ready to sharpen your skills on the saddle, we're here to help you have fun!

Scenic Road Journeys
If you want to take in more of Perthshire's glorious scenery then why not take to the open road. For the motorcyclists and classic car enthusiasts then the winding roads taking in hills, pretty villages, lochs and rivers are the way to go. Don't forget to call in to The Green Welly Stop at Tyndrum for all your refueling needs! See the links below for more information or just get the map out and plan your own route...
