Eskdale is a stunning glacial valley set in the heart of the Western part of the Lake District. The crystal waters of the River Esk flows from the fells at the top of the valley all the way out to sea at Ravenglass 8 miles away. Eskdale and its surrounding areas have plenty to offer. With its many walks ranging from a gentle stroll along the river paths to climbing Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. The Eskdale Trail is a great cycle route which follows the River Esk through the valley all the way to Ravenglass, a picturesque eastuary village on the Western Coastline. You could take the relaxing and scenic option of returning you cycle journey on the narrow gauge railway from Ravenglass station. The accommodation is located right next door to a superb pub ‘The Woolpack Inn’ which serves homemade pizza’s from their wood fired ovens, along with the usual pub food. We are also within a mile of two other fantastic eateries - The Boot Inn & Brook House Inn.
The Byres Bunk House Accommodation in Eskdale
The Byres were once an old agricultural barn and cow byres built in the 1960’s, the building is in the process of being tastefully transformed providing two eco-friendly, cosy and warm studios which will be ready by March 2017.
The Byres occupy a stunning location in Boot, part of the picturesque valley of Eskdale which nestles in the heart of the English Lake District.
With views of the Western Fells, the accommodation accross the valley towards the fells, capturing the sun throughout the day and into the evening.
Both Harter & Birker, named after Harter Fell & Birker Water Falls – both of which you get superb views of from the accommodation, they are in the process of been renovated and each can sleep 4/6 people comprising of two bunks (double on the bottom with single over the top).
We are taking every possible opportunity to make the units eco-friendly. They are extremely well insulated and will be fitted with low energy lighting, they will have their own water supply which flows from the fells (through a water treatment system of course) and will be fully heated all year round from our biomass boiler which will also heat the water, so even in the wintertime they are to be cosy & warm. We also have a waste treatment system and recycling facilities!
The Byres are a great step up from slumming it in a tent, we like to call it glamping! Bwill both have the luxury of an en-suite shower room with toilet & sink, a cosy seating area inside along with the two bunks consisting of two double bottom bunks & two single top bunks.
The double patio doors will mean you can still take in the view when inside, but curtains are fitted for that little bit of privacy!
Open up the patio doors onto the large covered decked area to breath in the fresh country air where you have an outdoor seating area a cooking space and sink. There is also the use of the lawn with picnic tables at the front.
We welcome 1 large or 2 small friendly and well behaved dogs by prior arrangement in both units, we may be flexible on this so please call to enquire. To cover extra cleaning costs there is a charge of £10 per dog per stay, please bring your pets bedding, bowls etc with you. Please ensure dogs are kept on a lead on site, there are plenty of walks directly from the site and all of the pubs welcome pets in the bar areas.
We are located right next door to The Woolpack Inn which serve homemade pizza’s freshly prepared baked in the wood fired pizza ovens, which you can eat in or take back to enjoy in the comfort of your accommodation.
They are also in within walking distance of Boot Village, where you will find two more great eateries, The Boot Inn is a cosy traditional pub serving great pub food & real ale & the Brook House Inn is a hotel & bar which has a fantastic reputation for its food (The Sirloin Steak is fab)!
A little further down the valley we have the King George IV pub (worth keeping an eye on what events they have on over the year) and the Bower House Inn, another traditional pub serving nice Sunday Roasts.
Rowan Bank -Self Catering Accommodation in Eskdale (Sleeps 8)
Converted in the 1990’s form an old granite barn, Rowan Bank self-catering offers the perfect getaway.
Rowan Bank offers group accommodation, sleeping up to 8 people. Inside you will find the cosy cottage has been converted to a high standard keeping some of its original features such as the old beams, it is traditionally decorated and captures the feel of true country living and is dog friendly.
The house is set in two acres of land with a large garden and seated courtyard area.
It occupies a stunning location in Boot, part of the picturesque valley of Eskdale which nestles in the heart of the English Lake District.
With views of the Western Fells, Rowan Bank looks down the valley towards the West Coast, capturing the sun throughout the day and into the evening.
Rowan Bank is surrounded by the Lake Districts most impressive mountain ranges and is a great base if you are planning to do some walking during your stay. It is a great starting point for Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England.
The Hallway entrance to Rowan Bank provides a utility and storage area to for any boots & outdoor clothing, there is a washing machine and also a handy shower room to the rear of the utility area.
The accommodation consists of two double rooms and two twin rooms making this an ideal base for a group of friends on a walking holiday. There is a large dining area which flows into the oak kitchen which is fully equipped with all you need to cater during your stay and is complete with a large gas range and a dishwasher.
There is ample seating for eight in the cosy sitting room to the rear of the dining area and also the master double room with en-suite bathroom complete with Jacuzzi bath.
The stairs lead to a galleried landing area which carries on with the characterful exposed beams. On the landing there is an additional seating area which is an ideal place to relax. There are two twin bedded rooms & a double room all with their own washbasin & and a shared bathroom.
From the downstairs dining area there are patio doors leading onto a courtyard with outdoor seating, perfect for those summer barbecues. There is also a large garden and lawn area and use of a shed, perfect to house the bikes, and this is where you will find use of a charcoal BBQ.
There is also ample space for parking several cars and there is certainly plenty of room for the children to run around and explore.
