Loft and Snug
On the first floor of our converted farmhouse, The Loft and The Snug at Swinton Bivouac are accessed by stairs up into, well, the loft!
The Loft is a large, airy room with plenty of space for three sets of wooden bunk beds and a double/twin bed, sleeping a maximum of eight people. There is also a private shower room with toilet.
The Snug is a separate bedroom, adjacent to The Loft, with a double/twin bed, guests can access the communal facilities via a private staircase.
With a convenient interconnecting door The Snug can booked as a separate room sleeping two, or can be combined with The Loft to sleep a total of ten people.
We think The Loft and The Snug provide a great option for those who feel that the ‘pull of the great outdoors’ offered by a holiday in a tree lodge or meadow yurt but have a slightly different requirement.
So for those of you who feel they really can’t exist without a reading light, perhaps The Loft and Snug provide the answer.
The Bivouac cafe
The Bivouac cafe is the place for guests and visiting walkers, families and friends.
With snacks and simple dishes made from local produce, drop by for a coffee, cake, a light lunch, or enjoy a delicious meal in this perfect setting.
On warm summer days visitors can sit out on the patio and enjoy a cup of tea or light snack.
For inclement Yorkshire days, the fire keeps the split-floor level in our cafe, snug for you to enjoy the food while looking down below.
Below the split-floor is our family den with a selection of toys to entertain the kids. For the more inquisitive just step through the doors of the family den into our walled garden where you can sit out and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Family pets are of course welcome too.
About the site
At every stage of the design and build of the Swinton Bivouac a combination of practical comfort with a natural style has been our fundamental guiding force.
Unique to the site, the tree-lodges echo the philosophy. Designed by founder Sam Hardwick and Rudi Meseg, one of the original team members that built the acclaimed timber house on Channel 4’s Grand Designs.
The durable and environmentally sound timber-frames create a distinctive look and feel, with exterior larch cladding.
Set in woodland, the tree-lodges let you get close to nature, whilst enjoying the comfort and practicality that allows the enjoyment of the sweeping view across the dale and rolling Yorkshire countryside.
The Mongolian inspired dwellings are ideal for the Yorkshire climate and the Bivouac Meadow Yurts have been hand made in the UK and have taken some unique features:
Sage green in colour, the Yurts are designed to blend into their pastureland setting, and natural canvas is waterproof – designed to ensure that you are dry and warm or cool and sheltered at all times.
Please note that the yurts are seasonal and available from the beginning of April to the end of October.
The farmhouse and barn (home to the cafe, The Loft, The Snug, shower facilities and shop) have been thoughtfully restored, with the original features and an authentic sense of warmth retained.
