YHA Coniston Coppermines is perfect for mountain lovers looking for great climbing holidays. Beautifully located, this hostel offers a 500ft head start on the ascent of the Old Man of Coniston. If you’re up for the challenge, scale the Old Man to enjoy incredible views from the summit. On a clear day it’s possible to see much of the southern Lake District, Morecambe Bay, Blackpool Tower and even out to the Isle of Man.
There are splendid walks and views to enjoy from this rural retreat and it's a great base for outdoor activity breaks and walking holidays. There's lots of culture here too with the National Trust's steam-powered Victorian yacht touring Coniston Water, Brantwood - historic home of artist John Ruskin, plus site-specific sculpture trails in Grizedale Forest nearby.
YHA Coniston Coppermines has 26 beds in a selection of dorm rooms and private rooms. The hostel has a cosy and relaxing lounge upstairs which has a wood burner for lovely nights in. There is also a dining room where you can sit and indulge in something delicious which you've cooked up in the attached self-catering kitchen. Hire the Whole Place
This hostel is occasionally made available for hire on an exclusive basis. This means that you can have the place to yourself and choose how many of your friends, family, club mates, etc., join you. We allocate availability for exclusive use in blocks, typically up to 90 days in the future. If you are looking for space to stay with us on a normal shared basis, and can’t see any availability three months or more into the future, then this hostel may be being held for Exclusive Hire. Breakfast features continental items like yoghurts and cereals and there is also a cooked full English option. Breakfast is served from 7.30 to 8.30am. Breakfast is now available at 10% off - ONLY WHEN PRE-BOOKED (in-hostel price: £5.25). Simply add it to your basket at check out to save!
We can provide a packed lunch including a freshly prepared sandwich, a delicious cake, cereal bar, a bottle of mineral water, a packet of crisps and a piece of fresh fruit. Eat in the hostel or take your packed lunch with you to enjoy during your day of exploring.
The evening Supper Club meal is a set menu served at a set time. Sat around a communal table, you'll be able to meet and share stories with your fellow travellers. Supper Club is served at 7pm. Our Supper Club is available on the public as well as guests, so let us know in advance if you wish to join us.
Kids Eat Free
One free children's meal is avaialable per adult main meal from the main menu when purchased at the same time. This offer is not available on breakfast.
We have a licensed bar with real ale should you want to settle in for the evening in front of the fire.
In our self-catering kitchen we have a set of hobs and a cooker oven, not to mention lots of pots, pans, cutlery and crockery for you to dish up with.
This hostel is self-catering only from November until March, when a full meals service resumes.
