This Georgian mansion has been refurbished to a high standard and has been awarded a 3 star VisitEngland grading. Set in beautiful gardens in a peaceful area within Penzance, it’s only 15 minutes walk from the town and seafront, perfect for seaside holidays, activity breaks and school trips.

Penzance is an excellent base for exploring the local area and it is the departure point for sailings to the Isles of Scilly. With a section of the 630-mile South West Coast Path accessible nearby, YHA Penzance is perfectly positioned to offer some sensationally scenic routes. Visit St Ives or Sennen Cove, great for watersports, sailing or surfing holidays, or just relax on some of Europe’s finest beaches. From enjoying a Cornish cream tea to watching the surfers at the beach, there's always something to do here.

The Hostel

This magnificent Georgian mansion has 100 beds in both dorm rooms and private rooms. Facilities include a café bar, laundry, drying room, games room and a BBQ area – perfect for dining al fresco on a balmy summer night. There is also a large garden area for guests to make use of on sunny days.

The hostel is full of original features with an impressive staircase and hallway. Guests can choose to relax in our spacious lounge and are welcome to help themselves to a board game or two for the evening.

Two good-sized dining rooms are available, one of them attached to the self-catering kitchen which is convenient for guests choosing to make their own meals.

Bell Tents

Get all the fun of camping but without any of the set up stresses with these beautiful bell tents - part of the YHA Glamping experience. These spacious tepee-like tents are fully kitted out with a double futon bed and three single futons plus all bedding and can sleep four or five people. They also have eco-friendly solar lighting and comfy bean bags for you to chill out on during the day plus bedside tables, a coffee table, rugs and soft flooring.

There are six tents available at YHA Penzance and there is a separate toilet and shower block for glamping guests to use. YHA Penzance's bell tents are available to book throughout the year for stays between Easter and the end of September.


Please note that camping is sold per person and not per pitch and so, during the booking process, you will need to select the number of people that you wish to camp.

YHA Penzance has a sheltered and cosy, south-facing campsite on a level green adjacent to the main Youth Hostel building with views across Mount's Bay to the Lizard Peninsula. Just a 10 minute wak from the nearest bus service and 15 minutes from the centre of Penzance, this campsite is ideally places for a family break or if you're organising a group getaway.

Use of all the hostel facilities are included for campers.
Wildlife spotting guides are available from the Youth Hostel reception, so see what you can find!
There is a washroom and mini-kitchen on the campsite as well as four toilets and two showers.
BBQs are available for hire but your own charcoal must be provided. There is a metal table area which is suitable for disposable BBQs.

Parking is available in an adjacent car park.

Check In
Check in times for camping are the same as for the hostel. Check out by 10am.

Important Information
Quiet time is observed in the campsite from 10.30pm until 7.30am.
Campfires are strictly prohibited.
Please note that the site is not suitable for campervans or caravans.
There is no camping equipment provided - customers will need to bring their own tents.

Need something filling to start the day? We serve a delicious buffet breakfast from 7:30am until 9am (with even earlier sittings at 7am in summer) with hot Full English and fresh cold options too. We can provide a packed lunch including a freshly prepared sandwich, a delicious cake, cereal bar, a bottle of mineral water, a packet of crisps and a piece of fresh fruit. Eat in the hostel or take your packed lunch with you to enjoy during your day of exploring.


Our tasty Rural Menu is served from 4:30pm until 8:30pm; we're sure you'll find something yummy on our selection of starters, mains and sweets. The cafe bar seats about 40 people and is a comfortable place to relax.

Kids Eat Free

One free children's meal is available per adult main meal from the main menu when purchased at the same time. This offer is not available on breakfast.


We're licensed to sell hot and cold drinks, so enjoy the Penzance sunshine with a glass of Pimms or warm up with a tempting Cakeaway coffee and slice of cake.

Self-Catering Facilities

Our open plan self-catering kitchen and dining room seats 25 people. There are three hobs, two cookers, three fridges, one freezer, a microwave, three kettles and plenty of pots, pans and cutlery to use.

The length of our walking guides is given in miles and rounded to the nearest full mile (whole number) for simplicity. For short walks (of less than 2 miles) or walks that have a length that ends in .5, a more accurate walk length may be given in the first section of the walk introduction. For example, the Length in the header may be listed as 6 miles, and the introduction may confirm that the exact length of the walk is 5.5 miles. The walk length is calculated from the GPS file that was created by the walk author GPS tracking the walk whilst walking, using the iFootpath App GPS Tracker, meaning it is very accurate. Our bespoke tracker is particularly detailed and plots a walkers position about every 10 seconds. The tracker is calibrated to match two other reputable map and walking sources, Ordnance Survey and Nike. As with all standardised walk and map lengths, the distance does not take account of hills and slopes, just the distance you would measure using a piece of string on a flat map version of the terrain, so hilly walks will feel longer than stated. If you track the route using another GPS App or Tracker App or Fitness Device, you can expect the distance you record to be different due to different calibrations. This is particularly true of those Apps and devices that count your motion and steps – these can only guess the distance you have travelled with each step and so are much less accurate.

Grade (Boots)

The grade of a walk is an indicator of how difficult the terrain is that you will encounter along the way. This does not take into account the walk length but does suggest how challenging the walk will be. It takes into account things like hills, path surfaces and obstacles (like stiles, gates, steps and rock scrambles). An easy walk, graded as 1 (and shown as 1 Boot) indicates a walk that is essentially flat, has no sharp hills to climb, has no stiles, is easy to navigate (probably along a well-worn path) and is suitable for most levels of fitness. A difficult walk, graded as 5 (and represented by 5 Boots) indicates a walk that is strenuous and involves steep ascents and/or descents. It may be technically challenging involving difficult terrain or obstacles that require scrambling with your hands. Please note that the grading for walks is subjective and open to interpretation and should only be used as a guide when selecting a walk.

NOTE: Do be aware that the level of stamina required for any walk will vary depending on both the walk length and the difficulty grade - you should only walk within your limits.
