Formerly the Black Bull pub, King’s House is one of YHA’s oldest hostels and has plenty of rural charm. A rustic home from home, it is looked after by enthusiastic Volunteer Managers and makes a comfortable base for ramblers and cyclists. You'll find plenty of local shops and services nearby, and our cosy hostel sits in the centre of the village, near to a working pub. Relax by our open fire and recharge for your next adventure.

Rooms are all family sized as follows: 1 x three bedded room, 4 x four bedded rooms, 1 x five  bedded room an 1 x six bedded room. The hostel includes a spacious self-catering kitchen, drying room, two dining areas for guests, a comfy lounge with open fire (gorgeous during winter), and a small shop of handy provisions.

Hire the whole place

This hostel is occasionally made available for hire on an exclusive basis. This means that you can have the place to yourself and choose how many of your friends, family, club mates, etc., join you. We allocate availability for exclusive use in blocks, typically up to 90 days in the future. If you are looking for space to stay with us on a normal shared basis, and can’t see any availability three months or more into the future, then this hostel may be being held for Exclusive Hire. You can check availability for Exclusive Hire on our dedicated website, or use our live chat service for more information.

The hostel is self-catering and there's a well-equipped kitchen with a cooker, fridge and plenty of cutlery and crockery for guests to use. The Village pub “Hark to Bounty” offers Evening meals and breakfasts. There is also a riverside café in the village which serves lunches, drinks and snacks.
