This picturesque and eco-friendly hostel with plenty of charm and character in National Trust woodland is a perfect country retreat close to London. A haven of peace and tranquillity, you can relax in front of the real fire or enjoy a barbecue in the extensive grounds. The hostel offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. In the evening relax in front of our open log fire or sit in the garden and enjoy the views across to Polesden Lacey National Trust estate. Set in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with a network of footpaths and bridleways on the doorstep, the hostel is ideal for walking and cycling holidays.

The Hostel

YHA Tanners Hatch is a classic country cottage with low-beamed ceilings throughout and bags of character. 25 beds arranged across 3 bedrooms (bunk beds), some triple bunks. All bed linen is provided. We have a lounge with real fire, sofas and armchairs which is perfect for cosying up in after a busy day. Our dining room has a woodburner, tables and wooden benches. There are sinks in two of the bedrooms. Toilets and showers are in a separate building outside.

There is camping available in the woods near the hostel for 14 people. There are outdoor showers, toilets and washrooms for campers to use which are shared with hostel guests. These are approximately 50m away from the campsite. Guests have access to the hostel facilities including the self-catering kitchen. There are two fire pits on site which means you can collect or bring your own wood and build a real campfire.

Hire the whole place

This hostel is occasionally made available for hire on an exclusive basis. This means that you can have the place to yourself and choose how many of your friends, family, club mates, etc., join you. We allocate availability for exclusive use in blocks, typically up to 90 days in the future. If you are looking for space to stay with us on a normal shared basis, and can’t see any availability three months or more into the future, then this hostel may be being held for Exclusive Hire. You can check availability for Exclusive Hire on our dedicated website, or use our live chat service for more information.

Self-Catering Facilities

Cook up a storm in our rustic self-catering kitchen and enjoy a meal in this beautifully atmospheric building. We've got an oven with three hobs, a microwave, two kettles, two fridges and plenty of pots, pans and crockery to serve up with. If you want to dine out, the nearest places are an hour's walk away and there are plenty of shops in Dorking.
