This lovely 5.5 mile circular walk takes you through rolling Oxfordshire and Warwickshire countryside with some beautiful views along the way. The walk starts in Shenington and loops through Tysoe – both “ironstone” villages of dark honey-coloured local stone. Shenington's main claims to fame are an illegal 1810 bare knuckle boxing match for the English title involving a famous American black boxer; and the testing of jet aircraft at Shenington airfield in WW2.

There is one steep but short climb, otherwise it is fairly easy going across undulating fields. You will walk through livestock fields, with some short stretches of quiet road walking and private lanes. There are a number of stiles and gates. Allow 3 hours.

There are pubs in both Shenington and Tysoe; and also a teashop and village stores in Tysoe.

The walk starts at the village green in Shenington, where there is free roadside parking. Approximate post code OX15 6NQ. The no 6 and 7 bus routes between Stratford-on-Avon and Banbury pass through both Shenington and Tysoe.

Leaving the village green, walk east along the main road through the village, passing the village hall on your left. Shortly after Church Lane on the right, you come to the footpath post for the D'Arcy Dalton Way on the left.

The D'Arcy Dalton Way was created in 1986 by the Oxfordshire Fieldpaths Society to celebrate its Diamond Jubilee. The walk was named after Colonel d'Arcy Dalton - one of the founding members of the Society.

Bear left round the green metal building, rising to a wide grassy track and turn left. Follow this track along the valley side until, with a building in the distance, the track splits.

Bear left and now follow the clear path and signage for the Macmillan Way across rolling fields and then along a dirt track for 1.5 miles until it reaches a road.

Start point: 52.101 lat, -1.4864 long
End point: 52.0961 lat, -1.503 long

Go through the gate between the farmhouse and converted barn. Turn left to walk down the field. Halfway down the next field, turn left across a tiny stream (waymarked for the Seven Shires Way and Centenary Way), walk diagonally right across the next field. Follow the footpath signs for the Seven Shires and Centenary Ways across a couple more fields and exit onto a road at the entrance to Tysoe.

Turn left into Tysoe and walk up to Peacock Lane on the left, opposite the church. (Walk on into the village if you wish to visit the pub, teashop or village store).

Peacock Lane to Clearing

Start point: 52.0961 lat, -1.503 long
End point: 52.0942 lat, -1.485 long

Turn left to walk down Peacock Lane and, as it ends in front of a private driveway, turn left down a discrete waymarked turning and almost immediately cross a ditch (note the knee level stone carving in the wall) into a field.

Turn right and walk up the ridge and furrow field and across the next field – more ridge and furrows - and over a stile into woodland. Cross the track immediately after the stile and follow the path straight ahead, which climbs swiftly through the woodland for a short distance before leveling out with a steep drop on the left.

Carry on along the path in the woodland, passing farm buildings visible through the trees on the right, until the path exits in to a concrete-surfaced clearing.

After just under a mile, you go through a five bar gate with a valley on your left, with extensive ridge and furrows.
