A 3 mile circular walk around a country park in Cheshire. You may see squirrels, voles and shrews as well as damselflies and various insects. In spring there will be a fabulous display of bluebells. With the number of parkland paths and turnings on the route, remember to use the App's live GPS map to help with navigation. The route is mostly level on stone or tarmac paths, with only one short hill near start and finish. There are five kissing gates, an A-type barrier and a short flight of shallow steps to negotiate. A short stretch through woodland about three quarters of the way round may be a bit muddy after rain. Allow 1.5 hours.

From the M53 at Junction 7 take the B5132 towards Overpool. At the first roundabout take the second exit staying on the B5132. In about 100 metres turn right into Rivacre Road. Take the third turning on the right into Poole Hall Lane and the FREE car park for Rivacre Country Park is on your left. Nearest postcode is CH66 1SS.

End point: 53.2894 lat, -2.9306 long

After a left-hand bend, turn right at the T-junction. Keep straight on passing a turning on the right and at the bridge keep left. The stream should be on your right and a high bank covered in bluebells on your left. At the next bridge, again keep left passing the bridge on your right. In about 30 metres take the right fork and then cross a bridge.

Start point: 53.2894 lat, -2.9306 long
End point: 53.2914 lat, -2.9457 long

After crossing the bridge turn right and, at the crossroads of footpaths, turn left up the hill into the trees. Ignore all the turnings to the left and you will come to an open space where you can see a bench and signpost on the far side. Keep left passing a rubbish bin and a green gate on your left. There will then be houses to your left and a disused golf course to your right. The path bends right and then left. Admire the garden on the left and then a pond on the right. Go through a kissing gate and at the T-junction turn right to cross the golf course. At the far side you will reach a bridge into the woods.

Start point: 53.2914 lat, -2.9457 long
End point: 53.2933 lat, -2.9387 long

Cross the bridge into the woods and take the right fork to a T junction with a pond in front of you. Turn right and immediately right again so that the woods are on the left and the golf course is on the right. Follow the path past a wooden bridge on the right and over the tree-root path to the end of the wood. Bear right onto a footpath to pass a rubbish bin and bench then turn right towards a bridge. Before the bridge, turn left to reach another footpath and turn right.

End point: 53.2907 lat, -2.9314 long

Continue past a rubbish bin and bench then you have the option to take the footpath in the woods or continue to walk on the grass. Before a steep downhill path turn right and then immediately left onto a path with a bench on the right. After about 30 metres turn right on a footpath down the hill. At (or before) the bottom turn left across the grass to turn left on another footpath.

After crossing the bridge, turn left up the hill and go through a gap in a fence. Turn left on a footpath to go downhill and pass a bridge on the left. This will bring you back to the road crossing with 2 kissing gates. Carefully cross the road and continue on the footpath, turning right at the sign to the car park from where the walk began.

Disappointing walk, instructions were very unclear at times, especially between points 1-4. Relied on the GPS to get round. Never had any trouble following any I footpath ones before. The golf course is very much active.

ADMIN RESPONSE: Sorry to hear you were disappointed with this walk. The walk introduction does include the warning that "with the number of parkland paths and turnings on the route, remember to use the App's live GPS map to help with navigation". Our volunteer walk authors work very hard to write clear directions, but in some parklands this can be very challenging. That is why the detailed GPS map is provided for all our walks.
