A 2.5km (1.5 mile) circular walk from St. Botolph’s Church, known locally as Boston Stump, in the town of Boston in Lincolnshire. Along the walk, you will see a beautiful church, pretty river views and wildlife.

The walk is generally flat and follows surfaced paths throughout. There are no gates, stiles or livestock on route. Potential obstacles encountered on the route include a road, which is crossed twice, and a small stretch with cobbles on the return to the church. Allow 1 hour.

There are numerous refreshment options in Boston, including a coffee shop in The Stump.

This walk starts at Boston Stump, St Botolph’s Church, in Boston Town Centre. The address for the church is Church Street, PE21 6NW. There are a number of car parking options in Boston, from the A16 just follow signs for Boston Town Centre. The bus station and train station are both a 5 minute walk away from the start of the walk.

Turn right to cross the River Witham using the footbridge. Once on the other side of the River Witham, turn right. The police station will be on your left. On your right will be the River Witham and Boston Stump beyond this. Keep ahead and the footpath will join Irby Place. This and the following section (Boston Rowing Cub to Grand Sluice Level Crossing) is a linear 'there and back' section of the walk. Therefore, you could make the walk shorter if desired by excluding these two sections.

For the full walk, keep ahead along the pedestrian path along Witham Bank West, with a grassed bank on your right down to the River Witham. There are a number of boats moored along the bank. On your left, you will pass the Witham Sailing Club Clubhouse. Continue just to the point where the Witham Bank West footpath turns to the left, a grassed public footpath is ahead and access for a rowers’ path is on the right. At this point, Boston Rowing Club clubhouse will be visible, slightly to the left. This is the end of our linear section and where we turn around.

Upon reaching Fydell Street, cross the road and then turn left to cross the River Witham. Once on the far (east) side of the river, follow the road to the right. Continue going straight and you will follow Witham Place and then Wormgate. You will be able to see views of Boston Stump. Follow the cobbled street ahead, passing through pedestrian bollards. You will then be at the back of the Boston Stump with the River Witham on your right. Take the footpath nearest the river wall to complete the walk and return to the main entrance of the church.
