A very nice 3 mile circular walk from the lovely Oxfordshire village of Combe, crossing the countryside to the small village of East End and the Roman Ruins. The walk is through two small villages and the surrounding countryside, and consists mainly of flat walking. There is one steep section near the end of the walk, but this is on the good surface of a concrete lane. There are also a number of stiles and gates on this walk, and some footbridges. Allow 1.5 hours

From either Blenheim Palace or Witney, take the A4095 to Long Hanborough. In the village, take the right turn signposted Combe, and follow this road until you reach a left turn for Combe and Combe railway halt. Turn left here and follow the road all the way to the Green in Combe. Approximate postcode OX29 8NT.

Walk Sections

Start to Robin Hill Turn
Start to Robin Hill Turn

Start point: 51.84 lat, -1.4034 long
End point: 51.8367 lat, -1.4057 long

Facing the Village Green and with the Cock Inn Pub behind you, walk to the right down Church Lane. Church Lane will quickly become Robin Hill. Walk down Robin Hill and out of the village until the road bears 90 degrees to the left. It is here you turn off the road, following the public footpath sign to North Leigh.

End point: 51.8334 lat, -1.409 long

Follow the country lane over the railway bridge and to the lane's end at a house gate. Just before the house gate there is a public footpath signpost to the right, directing you through a small copse and down some wooden steps. (If the entrance to the copse is overgrown, there is a wider clearer path down near the house gate. Both paths meet up in the open part of the copse).

Follow the worn footpath directly across the field, following the river on your left. When you meet up with the river again, walk directly across the meadow again on the worn track towards the gate you can see on the other side of the field.

Keep an eye out for the next waymarker which is a right turn signposted as a public footpath. There is also another public footpath sign here, continuing on through the woods. You do not want to continue here, so keep an eye out for the right turn and take it.

After 6 days of rain, it was very muddy in places but that didn't distract from this lovely walk. Packs a lot of variety in with some good views.

Brilliant short walk. Bring dogs, kids and wellies.

Completed this walk on 4th October, thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely village to start in, then through delightful countryside and small hamlets. Roman Villa was worth a walk around, it appears to be open all day. Shame Pub in Combe wasn't open when we returned but it didn't spoil anything. Very well written instructions, our first walk from iFootpath and we shall be doing more.
