A 4.5km (3 mile) circular pub walk from the Coach and Horses in Chelwood Common near Danehill in East Sussex. It is a lovely country walk through heathland and wooded valleys on the edge of Ashdown Forest. This walk is one of a collection published through a collaboration between iFootpath and East Sussex County Council.

The terrain is medium difficulty, including several steady slopes and one fairly steep climb through some woodland. The route follows a mixture of woodland paths, grass tracks, quiet lanes and field paths, some of which can be muddy. You will need to negotiate several footbridges plus four stiles and the route follows a couple of public footpaths that lead you through private gardens. You are unlikely to come across any livestock. Allow 1.5 hours.

The walk starts and finishes at the Coach and Horses pub, which has its own car park. From Danehill on the A275, travel north east along School Lane for about a mile to reach the pub at the junction with Coach Lane. Approximate post code RH17 7JF.

After crossing the bridge, turn left at the signposted path junction. Continue to follow the path ahead where it joins a section of surfaced driveway, passing the house on your left.

The well-defined path heads downhill to meet a surfaced driveway. Cross the drive and continue ahead to a small bridge. From the bridge, continue to follow the waymarked path uphill to reach another drive. Follow the driveway straight ahead to reach the junction with Tanyard Lane. Bear left and follow the lane to its next junction with a lane, Brookhouse Bottom, on your right.

End point: 51.0327 lat, 0.0203 long

Turn right at this road junction and follow the lane for approximately 270 metres (300 yards). Turn left onto the signposted footpath immediately beside the entrance to Rough Acre, and follow the well-defined path at the rear of the garden to reach a stile. Take the stile and cross the short section of field ahead to take a second stile. Continue to follow the short, enclosed section of path to each a third stile. After crossing the third stile, follow the path across the field, heading steeply downhill to the woodland.

Cross the footbridge at the woodland edge before following the path, climbing steeply through the woodland. At the top of the hill, beside Allins Farm, turn left at the footpath junction and follow the wide, enclosed path between the tree-lined banks for approximately 650 metres (710 yards). Turn left at the footpath signpost and cross the field in the direction indicated to reach and take a stile and footbridge. Continue to follow the waymarked path across the edge of the garden to reach the driveway.

Brilliant walk on a hot, sunny day. All the mud is gone and it was great to be in shade!
