We're excited to announce that the iFootpath Android App is now available on Google Play.

Many of you have been asking, for more than a year, for us to create an Android version of the App and we've always been keen but needed to take some time to save up the funds needed to invest. We've now made that investment and we hope that this will mean many more people will be able to join the iFootpath community. We can't wait to welcome all the Android customers to our world.

All aboard with the Canal & River Trust

All aboard with the Canal & River Trust

There's something about rivers and canals that really inspires the walker in us all. Water seems to course through the veins of us Brits, born perhaps through being an island race with a long maritime past. And if you're not spending the day at the coast, then rivers and canals can make just as inspirational a destination.

Walk 10 miles...earn £10

Walk 10 miles...earn £10

We’d love your help in building the walks library to cover more countryside rambles, town trails and riverside strolls across the UK – all of your favourite walks. So as an incentive, for the next 1,000 miles of published walks on iFootpath we’re giving away £10 iTunes or Amazon vouchers for every customer that supplies us with 10 miles of walks for publication (minimum standard of FootpathwithiniPhoneFramecontent and other terms apply – see below). This could be a single 10 mile walk, or several walks that add up to 10 miles in total. Or, if you’re feeling generous we can donate the £10 to charity on your behalf.

  • Use the iFootpath Mobile App to track the route, placing waypoints to split the walk into sections
  • Upload the GPX route to the website and use the editor to correct any errors
  • Click ‘Convert to Walk’ and add some words to describe the walk
  • Add photographs and turn-by-turn directions for each walk section
  • Check you are happy with the walk using the Preview function and then set the walk to Ready - an administrator will check your walk meets the publication requirements and then release it for all the iFootpath community to enjoy

For full details of how to use the iFootpath Mobile Tracker see the iFootpath Mobile User Guide and for full instructions and tips on creating your own iFootpath walk see the Creating a Walk User Guide.

Terms and conditions

1 General

1.1 Submitted walks must be between 2 and 20 miles in length and must be in the UK.

1.2 The 10 mile target can be met with a single 10 mile walk or, more likely, with a number of walks totalling 10 miles in length when added together.

1.3 The walk content must meet the minimum content requirements as set out in section 2 below.

1.4 iFootpath reserves the right to check the accuracy of the walk descriptions submitted – any walks with factual errors will not be published.

1.5 Offer limited to £30 per customer and will be supplied after walks are approved and published. Offer open to casual walkers only, not to organisations and businesses. The reward can only be supplied as electronic vouchers for Amazon or iTunes to the customer’s registered email address. Customers may choose to refuse the voucher and instead can request iFootpath administrators to donate £10 to one of the following charities as an alternative: Breast Cancer Care, Dog’s Trust, Macmillan Cancer Support, Children in Need or British Heart Foundation. No cash equivalent is available.

1.6 The words and photographs to describe the walk must be written/taken by the customer and not copied directly from other published sources. By submitting the content the customer confirms that they hold the rights to publish the photographs and text, including permissions from any people appearing in the photographs. By submitting the walk the customer grants iFootpath a perpetual royalty-free right to use the photographs and text for any purpose associated with iFootpath including advertising, marketing and publications.

1.7 Offer valid from 9 February 2012 for the next 1000 miles of walks to be published on iFootpath.com. iFootpath reserves the right to end the offer early or change the terms.

2 Minimum walk content requirements

2.1 The Route. The route can be circular or linear, must be in the UK and must be between 2 and 20 miles in length. The route must be tracked using the iFootpath Mobile Tracker and broken into two or more sections using waypoints to mark the beginning/end of each section.

2.2 Photographs. The submitted walk must include a main image, an icon image and an image for each of the walk sections.

2.3 Text and walk details. The Walk Description must include a summary of what people will see, types of terrain/paths, number of obstacles (gates, stiles etc), scale of ascents/descents and the time a walker should allow to complete the route. The Getting There section must include the nearest postcode and street address of the start point and parking arrangements, along with the nearest rail station if this is appropriate. The Walk Sections must include accurate turn-by-turn directions for the full length of the walk plus any notes on points of interest and/or history of the area.
