Introducing the Swinton Estate Trails Collection

iFootpath has teamed up with the team at Swinton Estate to bring you a new and exciting collection of walking guides, the Swinton Estate Trails. These ten walking trails, ranging from 1 mile to 15 miles in length, take visitors on a journey of discovery through the idyllic 20,000 acre Yorkshire estate. With heather moorland, crystal-clear rivers, rolling fields, woodlands, gardens, lakes, cascades, parkland follies, a deer park, a former quarry and a historic market town, there is plenty to enjoy…

Walkers (and their canine companions) will receive a warm welcome at Swinton Estate. With these carefully-crafted walking guides, you will be guided around the highlights of the estate. Hosted on the iFootpath App, each individual guide has full turn-by-turn directions, beautiful photographs and a live GPS map which shows your live location on the route map, so you can say goodbye to wrong turns. The only difficult part is choosing which route to follow!

Four Parkland Trails

You will have chance to see the walled garden, the deer park, the spring garden, the coffin pond (with its beautiful stone bridge and old boathouse), the old quarry and ravine (with its cascading waterfalls) and the top lake (with its abundance of wildfowl and stone alcove). After your walk, The Terrace Bar is the perfect spot for some well-earned refreshments. The bar area is dog-friendly, there is a beautiful courtyard garden and walkers will receive a warm welcome.

Two Bivouac Trails

The bivouac site is home to Swinton’s glamping facilities with meadow yurts, tree lodges and the fabulous Bistro Café. The Bivouac, Druid’s Temple and Sole Beck trail leads you on a journey through rolling pastures and woodland with stunning views, visiting Druid's Temple (one of Yorkshire's most interesting follies) and the ruins of Lobley Hall along the way. The longest of the trails, Around the Yorkshire Estate, takes you up onto Ilton Moor with breath-taking views. It continues along a portion of The Six Dales Trail, taking you through classic Dales pastures with beautiful stone walls and old stone farmhouses. Before or after your walk, the Bistro Café at Swinton Bivouac (which is fully-licensed, dog-friendly and opens seasonally) provides breakfast, light bites or hearty Yorkshire meals.

Two Riverside Trails

Swinton Estate Masham main 9216Choose one of the two riverside trails if you fancy exploring a little further afield. The Masham Circular trail takes you between Swinton Park and the North Yorkshire market town of Masham. This is a lovely varied walk, enjoying beautiful riverside paths alongside the River Burn and River Ure and visiting the bustling town of Masham. There are plenty of opportunities for dogs to take a paddle in the rivers whilst humans might prefer to enjoy a pint from one of Masham’s two breweries; Theakstons and Black Sheep Brewery. For a longer adventure, the Nutwith and Hackfall trail takes you across pastures and commons to reach the River Ure and Hackfall Woods, before returning through the beautiful woodland of Nutwith Common. After your walk, The Terrace Bar is the perfect spot for some well-earned refreshments. The bar area is dog-friendly, there is a beautiful courtyard garden and walkers will receive a warm welcome.

Two Linear Trails

If you can’t decide between the parkland trails or the bivouac trails, you might simply want to follow one (or both) of the linear trails that lead you between Swinton Park Hotel and the Bivouac Site. Along the way you will discover Swinton Park (with its beautiful walled garden, deer park and lakes), a wild stretch of path alongside Sole Beck, the ruins of Lobley Hall and several rolling grass pastures that lead you up to the Bivouac site.
