On Track for a Car-Free Walk

It is always nice to hear suggestions from iFootpath walkers and it makes us even happier if it is something we can make a reality. Today we are launching a new search facility on the iFootpath website, allowing you to find all our walks that are accessible by train…

Virgin Voyager TrainLast week we had a call on the online chat system, asking for suggestions for walks suitable for a group of friends. They lived in London and so needed to find walks that are accessible by train. We made some suggestions from some of our favourites and we are happy to report the group of friends enjoyed a lovely walk around Weybridge Locks and Levels.

But all this got us thinking… There are lots of people that don’t have a car or would prefer to travel by train. There are also lots of iFootpath walks that start at (or at least nearby to) a rail station.  What we were missing, was the ability to match these two things up. So… last week I spent some very worthwhile hours, reviewing each of the 900+ iFootpath walking guides and tagging those that start at a train station, or are less than a one mile walk from a train station. I know what you’re wondering – how many are there? The answer my friends is 194!

And voila, we are happy to announce a new search function on the iFootpath website, allowing people to find these walks with the simple tick of a box. Go to 'Find Walks' then 'Browse Walks' to open up the normal search page and you will see the new function waiting for you. Check this box whenever you want to look for walks that are accessible by train, handy for those people that don’t drive or if you just fancy leaving the car at home. You can combine the tick box with any of the other search functions too, so if you are looking for ‘Walks in Surrey that are Accessible by Train’ or ‘Coastal Walks that are Accessible by Train’ you can do just that.
AccessbytrainscreengrabOnce you’ve found the walk you fancy, remember to tag it as a Favourite to make it easy to find on your App. Let us know how you get on…we hope you find it useful.
